President's Letter Wow! 2001 has jumped in like a steamroller! And here we find ourselves with a new year, a new focus on security, a new world view, a new PAC interface, a new time for the annual conference, and a new Board of Trustees for the Customers of Dynix, Inc. The first order of business for the New Year is to thank everyone who is finishing a position on the CODI Board. Marge Freeman finished an appointed term as Past-president by actively beta testing the iPac software, and having knee surgery. Her long experience with CODI and library automation has been a great value to all of us. Ann Tenglund has been shepherding Dynix_l and the codi web page for years. Now she will get a little bit of a break as she steps down from the member-at-large (web) position, but she will still be supporting us with Dynix_l. Other leaders will be stepping down, but not for far, or for long. Donna Cranmer has ended her term as secretary, but was re-elected, and will continue to serve. And Eileen Kontrovitz, who has been wearing the president’s cap for almost 2 years, will be shifting to the role of Past-President. We also welcome two well-known Dynix administrators to the CODI Board. Jim Rosaschi has been elected as our new Vice-President/President-elect. He’ll be jumping into the job straight away as he takes on the co-chairmanship of the 2002 CODI/HUG joint conference. Al Carlson will be putting some of his boundless energy into CODI projects as he takes over the position of member-at-large (web). The full list of CODI officers (and e-mail addresses) is elsewhere on the Web Page. Please take a moment to look at those names, and let them know you appreciate their work on your behalf. So what does the New Year bring for CODI? 2002 will be a new year of partnerships as we strengthen our connections to other users groups, and work to build a partnership dialogue with epixtech. There may not be new systems installing Dynix software, but it still remains the most feature rich and complete library automation software in the world. CODI will work on you behalf to represent you views and help you get information, so that Dynix does what you need it to do until the day that YOU decide you are ready for a new product. As the users of the product we need to be clear about how and when the product is being developed and improved, and feel that our maintenance costs are going toward improvement of the software. Please be sure to let me know what is on your mind. I promise I will listen, and do my best to help your views be heard. But don’t forget the communication channels that you available to you with epixtech. If you have an idea, be sure to enter it in the good ideas database, and if you are having a problem, or something is taking to long, pick up the phone and call your Customer Relations Manager (Formerly Service Assurance Manager), that is what they are there for. I hope we have a great year together. If we work at it, it will be a lot of fun!! Greg Nelson |
