CODI-HUG Conference - Attention! Board Meeting Minutes
|
President's letter So, has anybody heard about this new thing called iPac? It’s pretty hard for a Dynix customer to have not heard about iPac. For a “legacy” system Dynix is looking pretty flashy these days. There’s a reason that Dynix is the most widely used library automation product in the world. It’s stable, it’s reliable and it is feature rich. As Dynix users you don’t need to be told this, because you already know it. One of the great things about iPac is the amount of user input that was used to help create the product. The Joint Application Development process, created by CODI and epixtech, was used to gather the functional requirements for iPac and design it’s features. Extensive beta testing by users allowed “in the field” analysis of features, and a reality check of what is really needed in the library. Of course as the newest product offering from epixtech, iPac still has a few bugs and growing pains to work out. But once again the users are there to help epixtech make it the best it can be. Input from support logs, phone calls, and discussions at regional CODI meetings are all providing input about the realities of implementing iPac. I look forward to the upcoming release. The other wonderful thing about iPac is how much I have been able to learn from other users as they begin to realize the capabilities of the system. Users helping users is a big part of what CODI is about. And the best opportunity for this is coming up in November. At our annual conference you will be able to hear presentations from users about what is really happening for them with iPac, Dynix and other issues. And this year brings an exciting first to the CODI conference. This will be our first joint conference in conjunction with HUG, the Horizon Users Group. By getting to know these Horizon users (many of whom are former Dynix users) you will be able to learn about your options for system migration, what is happening in other libraries, and meet with a wider range of specialty areas. It’s been over a year since we got together last for a CODI conference, and some of us are starting to go into withdrawal. So be sure to mark you calendars for November 11-13, 2002 for Strength in Partnership – the CODI/HUG 2002 Joint Conference in Orlando Florida. All the details will be posted to Dynix_l and on the conference web pages (www.ccrls.org/codihug2002 ) . Joint conference chairs, Jim Rosaschi (CODI) and Bruce Heimberger (HUG) are doing a wonderful job of getting the conference organized. Look for more details in this newsletter, and on the conference web site. I’ll be looking forward to seeing all of you in Orlando! Greg Nelson, |
