Conference
Edition President's Letter At this time of year, many of the CODI
Board members are preparing for the annual CODI conference. We are finishing up projects,
writing reports and taking care of unfinished business. Of course for Vice President,
David Schuster, the conference is a primary focus. If you have not yet registered for
the 2004 CODI Conference, it is not too late to take advantage of early
registration: This year CODI is trying something a
little different for the conference. Most of the conference is paid for via
registration fees. However, we do have wonderful vendor sponsorship for things such
as the breaks, printing, Internet access and of course the opening night reception
which is sponsored by Dynix. This year CODI is sponsoring several events: a keynote
speaker, a program and the 20th Anniversary Dinner. This is our way of giving back to
the conference. We have a wonderful keynote speaker-Joan Frye Williams. She is a
leading consultant in library technology and her speeches are both educational and
entertaining. The topic of the keynote is "Convenience Technologies: New Tools for
Outstanding Customer Service." In addition to the keynote speech, Joan will be doing
a session called "They're from Mars; We're from Reference: Bridging the Cultural Gap
Between Library and Technical Personnel." Click below for more information
on Joan: The other major event sponsored by
CODI is the CODI 20th Anniversary Dinner. This will be a rollicking evening of song
and merriment, not to mention dinner. Please take a peek at the invitation included
in this newsletter to get an idea of what is in store for you. The CODI Bylaws Committee, chaired
by Deanna Frazee, has been busy reviewing the CODI Bylaws and drafting a revised version.
Following the Annual Business Meeting on Thursday, there will be a session to review
the proposed changes. The revisions will be posted to the CODI conference handouts web
page before the conference. Other Board members have been busy
too. Tammy Baker and the Enhancements Committee have been working on a process to
develop hot lists of items in the new enhancements database. David Schuster has put
together some new resources for the sharing page. Jim Rosaschi attended the DUG
conference in Edinburgh, Scotland. Please see their respective articles in this
newsletter for more details. Included also in this letter is an
escrow report of deposits made year to date. And last, but not least, there is an
announcement of the 2005 CODI conference. Cheers for now and I hope to see many of
you in Portland. Vicki Teal Lovely, CODI President |
